New Release:
#Youstun Interview With Jiffy Rockets
We had the pleasure of catching up with Houston hip hop artist and producer, Jiffy Rockets, for an exclusive interview. Hailing from Mo City, Texas, Jiffy has been writing and producing music for over a decade. Lately, she’s been creating a buzz in the local Houston hip hop scene, building a unique and loyal fan base. Most of her tracks are impressively self-produced, taking listeners on a hyperspeed journey through space and time.
With two full projects, “In the Air Volume I & II,” Jiffy Rockets showcases her mastery of wordplay over futuristic beats. Her sounds crash-land you into the middle of a Sci-Fi flick, navigating uncharted alien territory. From her experimentalism on the soundboards to her electric presence at shows, Jiffy has proven to be one of Houston’s most fearless hip hop artists in the game.
Barber Talk Series
The Legendary Mask Maker of Houston's Third Ward - Video Archives
Brother Aaron Lundy Bey is a beautician, community leader, and paper-mache maskmaker in Houston’s Third Ward. Brother Aaron’s knowledge of Houston’s history spans over 7 decades, detailing his experiences during the 1950’s and 60’s during the city’s transition from oil rig rainforest to the 4th most populous city in the United States. As a Moorish-American, Aaron expresses his love for his people by his unrelenting acknowledgement of African culture within his artistic style and work. Brother Aaron is Houston raised, and has been a present force of Black authenticity while actively resisting the gentrification and fast-track developmental changes in Third Ward. Check out part one of his story!
This project was recorded on 12.16.2020 based on historical thesis, “Barber Talk: Narratives from the Black Barbers of Houston’s Third Ward” written by Malik Chambers. Full thesis can be found on Bettysbook.com.
